A classic 'pigeon breast' bodice intended to accommodate an S bend corset beneath with a fluttered yoke and ruffled silk at the neckline. Softly nipped at the waist with gathered detail at the sides and center back to help create fullness at the hips and above the derriere. This incredible gown features 'ribbon' like inserts around the hem made from elaborate embroidered net. A scalloped embroidered border at the hem offers a stunning bit of detail from every angle. Hidden eye-hook closure up the back allows this dress to be comfortably stepped into. Ankle length at the front with an elegant train that trails from behind. A remarkable one-of-a-kind gown.

Condition: Hand washed and steamed. Incredible condition for age. Fabric is very strong with a healthy stretch and all fastenings are present. Some insignificant breaks in the tulle and one area near the hem where there is a slightly brassy tint that I was unable to lift. Silk ruffle at the neck has slight discoloration. Some minor imperfections that are original from when the gown was made (uneven stitching, stitch overlapping etcetera).

Fit Notes: Blousy in the front of the bodice and sleek at the front of the waist/hip; this dress was surely made to wear over Edwardian foundations. Slightly raised in the back to accentuate the derriere with a sleek skirt. Very flattering.
