Sansevieria kirkii 'Coppertone' is a cultivated variety of Sansevieria, known for its unique and attractive foliage. This succulent plant is distinguished by its large, thick leaves which have a copper or bronze coloring, hence its name 'Coppertone'. The leaves are often mottled dark green and may have wavy or slightly crenate edges, adding to their aesthetic appeal.
Origin: Although Sansevieria kirkii is native to East African regions, notably Tanzania and Kenya, the 'Coppertone' variety was specifically cultivated for its unique color and texture characteristics.
Growth: The growth of 'Coppertone' is moderate. It can grow to considerable height and width over time, forming rosettes of leaves that extend from the center of the plant.
Flowers: Like other Sansevierias, 'Coppertone' can produce vertical flower spikes bearing tubular, white or cream flowers. Flowering is rare in indoor cultivation and may not occur every year.
Light: Prefers bright but indirect light. Direct exposure to sunlight can be tolerated for part of the day, but too intense light can cause leaf discoloration.
Watering: Requires moderate watering. Allow the medium to dry completely between waterings to prevent root rot.
Substrate: Well-draining soil is crucial. Use a succulent mix.
Toxicity: Sansevieria kirkii 'Coppertone', like other members of the Sansevieria genus, can be toxic to pets and humans if ingested, due to the presence of saponins. It is advisable to keep it out of reach of children and pets.
