Care tips for Senecio macroglossus
Light
They can be grown in full sun, but prefer some shade from the hottest afternoon sun. They also do well indoors in a bright position with plenty of indirect light.
Temperature
They are not frost tolerant, but will tolerate low temperatues if kept dry and under cover.
Water
The Wax Ivy is moderately drought tolerant once established. Allow the soil to partially dry out between waterings. Water moderately in the warmer months and reduce in winter.
Soil
Senecio macroglossus will grow in most well-draining soils. Add some perlite or grit to an organic compost and ensure the pots have good drainage holes.
Repotting
Re-pot when it has outgrown its current pot.
Fertilizing
Fertilizing is not necessary. If the plant has not been re-potted for some time, a half strength liquid fertilizer or slow release fertilizer may be beneficial. Apply a seaweed tonic every 2-4 weeks in the growing season.
Pests
These plants are fairly pest free. Mealy bugs or aphids may infest the plant in humid environments.
